At Aihua, we hope to bring respect and honor back to the profession of English language teaching in Beijing. We hope that through our example the people in Beijing will begin to recognize that English teaching does not have to be organised by international corporations concerned only with finance, or by small, crooked, fly by night operators, also concerned only with finance. Aihua does not hire dancing monkeys and throw them into a classroom hoping that they will seem charming to the students, and that the students will think that a cute and funny foreigner is enough to provide the learning results that they are seeking.

At Aihua, our teachers have warm relations with the students, but we are professionals, and we do our jobs with dignity. As educators, we focus on the learning results of our students. For this reason, we are respected, and we can respect ourselves.

Aihua’s wage package is at the higher end of average. It is better than most, but not as good as some. There are good reasons, however, to choose a position at Aihua over a position offering a better pay package.

• We always deal fairly with teachers, and never swindle them: we do what we say we will do. We recognize that our reputation for fair dealing is our most important resource. Above all we value the honor and the good name of our school.

• The highest levels of management are assessable to teachers, and open to discussion and suggestion. If you feel that something we are doing is not right, we want to hear about it, and we will do our best to fix any problems.

• We have a friendly, fun and professional working environment. We typically have 20 foreign teachers, and 70 Chinese members of staff working with us.

• We provide complete support to our foreign teachers in all aspects of life and teaching.

• We run a set curriculum, and our terms are fixed. A teacher receives a timetable at the beginning of the term, and this remains constant throughout the term. The teacher will have the teachers’ book, and the students will have the students’ book. A clear course plan detailing the speed of teaching will be presented to the teacher.

• Extensive multimedia resources related to each unit in each program are available to the teacher.

• Most of our classes are small, with a maximum of eight students.

• Experienced and helpful Chinese teachers work together with and support our foreign teachers.

Applicants should be native English speaking, over 25 years of age and hold a primary degree and a TEFL certificate. Inexperienced teachers should not hesitate to apply. So long as such teachers have the right attitude, we can help them to develop skills that will help them in their careers as teachers, or in other careers.

We run two full and two short terms per year, and teachers are hired in accordance with these. Our two main terms coincide with the terms of the Chinese public school system. Our Autumn term runs from September to February, and our Spring term runs from March to July. We run a short, intense winter program of 14 days between our spring and autumn terms, and a summer term in July and August.
